Role Overview
The Anaesthesia Technician is responsible for providing technical support to anaesthesiologists and the operating theatre team in the safe and efficient delivery of anaesthesia services. The role involves preparing and checking anaesthesia machines, ventilators, monitors, circuits, airway devices, emergency equipment, drugs, and other essential supplies before procedures. The Technician assists during the induction, maintenance, and recovery phases of anaesthesia, supports emergency and resuscitation procedures when required, and ensures that all equipment is properly maintained and functional. The role also includes maintaining adequate stock, accurate documentation, and strict adherence to infection-control, sterilization, and patient-safety protocols while coordinating effectively with anaesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, and OT staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist anaesthesiologists in preparing patients and equipment for anaesthesia.
- Prepare and check anaesthesia machines, ventilators, monitors, circuits, and related equipment.
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of anaesthesia drugs, airway devices, and emergency supplies.
- Assist during induction, maintenance, and recovery from anaesthesia.
- Monitor and maintain anaesthesia equipment as per hospital protocols.
- Maintain proper stock of anaesthesia drugs, consumables, and equipment.
- Follow infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols.
- Assist in emergency procedures and resuscitation when required.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Coordinate effectively with anaesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, and OT staff.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Anaesthesia Technology or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant hospital experience.
- Experience in Operation Theatre and handling anaesthesia equipment preferred.
- Good knowledge of infection control and patient safety practices.
